Manion: Murphy Ditches Debate for Zucchini Race

Congressional newbie Democrat Patrick Murphy has ditched a proposed Energy debate with Republican challenger Tom Manion in favor of judging a Zucchini Decorating and Racing contest at a local farmer’s market.

The Manion campaign responds:

“I’ve got nothing against zucchini,” said Congressional candidate Tom Manion. “But I think there are more pressing issues facing our country right now. Last week I challenged Congressman Murphy to a debate on the topic of energy. It seems he is unable to debate, because he will be judging the zucchini races at a local farm market instead.”*

“The Democratic leadership turned out the lights on the debate on energy, and went home for vacation,” said Mr. Manion. “Everyone here at home is struggling. There are steps that can be taken, but when legislation is blocked from coming to a vote, nothing can get done. The least we can do for our community is to continue to discuss the issues while we wait for Congress to re-convene.”

Congressman Murphy has voted against increasing domestic oil supply seven times since taking office. He’s also voted against lowering or stabilizing the price of gas four times, and against thirteen other energy relief measures.

“It’s time to stop voting no, and to stop playing party politics. It’s time to put all options on the table, and zucchinis aren’t going to lower the price of gas,” said Mr. Manion.

They won’t? Not even if they’re properly inflated?

Having trouble paying for oil and gas, Bucks County? Murphy says “Let Them Eat Zucchini!”

In any event, Li’l Pat’s zucchini appearance seems to be something quite exciting to his sycophants on the left.

Murphy was mistakenly elected in the November 2006 election, when he lost Bucks County, but won narrowly in the 8th Congressional District’s tack-on precincts in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties.

UPDATE 8/7: It’s been noted that this zucchini event happens every Thursday, and it just so happens that Li’l Pat chose to attend on the night of the proposed energy debate.  I don’t know if this is the case or not. Guess it’s hard to debate energy without Mama Nancy’s hand in the back of your head working your mouth.  Or maybe there just weren’t enough enemy camera crews scheduled to cover the debate to make it worth the time of a Nancy Pelosi Mini-Me.

UPDATE 8/9: Follow-Up

Paris Hilton More Politically Adroit than Barack Obama

When the McCain campaign released their “Celeb” ad comparing opponent Barack Obama’s fame to that of other empty vessels like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, the Obama campaign and its surrogates fell all over themselves finding something to condemn.  After about a week, they settled on the old “It’s Racism” standby, crying and whining about the Washington Monument.

Patrick Murphy To Judge Zucchini Contest With Gas at $4

Congressional Republicans remain at work in Washington DC, protesting the Democrat-induced Congressional vacation, trying to get Congress called back into session so we can get an up or down vote on drilling to lower gas prices.  But PA 8th Congressional District’s own Li’l Pat Murphy is at home enjoying the time off.  Courier Times Now reports that Murphy is scheduled to judge a Zucchini race in Lower Makefield Thursday night.  I guess anything is better than being forced by Mama Nancy to vote against drilling for lower gas prices in opposition the wishes of the voters in his district.

There’s apparently no end to the duties of a United States Congressman. Patrick Murphy, D-8, is scheduled to judge zucchini races about 5 p.m. Thursday at the Lower Makefield Farmers’ Market. The event involves painting and decorating zucchini squashes, attaching wheels, and racing them down a course, market organizers said. If Murphy can’t make it, the race still goes on, they added. The market is held every Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the township’s Edgewood Pocket Park at the intersection of Edgewood and Heacock Roads.

Maybe Bucks Couny residents suffering from high gas and oil prices should send zucchinis to Li’l Pat’s office as a way to tell him to cut the play and get back to Washington and back to work for us.

Pelosi to At-Risk Dems: You Can Back Drilling

Look for Democrats who’s Congressional seats are up for grabs in tight races this fall like Bucks County’s dedicated Nancy Pelosi Mini-Me Patrick Murphy to suddenly reverse course and back offshore drilling to relieve pricing pressure at the pump now that Pelosi has quietly told them it’s OK to do so.  Murphy does nothing without Mama Nancy’s explicit approval.  Pelosi’s reasoning seems to be that she will grow her House majority after November, so the issue will never come to a vote anyway.
