Via the always-aces PA Watercooler comes word that Governor Rendell is looking at raising Pennsylvania’s gas taxes, already among the highest in the nation, as a way to overcome a transportation budget shortfall.
Increasing the state gas tax might be the only way to generate money for roads, bridges and mass transit as legislative leaders on Friday resisted calls to vote on a $12.8 billion offer to lease the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a governor’s spokesman said.
“To make up the shortfall, we’re looking at a gas tax increase,” said Rendell spokesman Chuck Ardo. “Where else are we going to find the money for the shortfall in transportation funding?”
I don’t know about you, but when I find out in my own life that less money than expected will be coming in, I cut expenses.
You know what, Ed? You’re so slick and persuasive, why not cut down on the time spent analyzing football games on Comcast Sportsnet and redirect your energy to negotiating some better deals on supplies and materials. Cut projects down to the bone or do them for less.
Times are tight all around, Ed. You, like the rest of us, can’t just go looking for someone to jack the money from when it gets hard to make ends meet.
Cut the budget. Alex suggests starting with a couple unproven pipe-dream energy schemes.
