Rick Perry Dropping GOP Nomination Bid

Rick Perry will hold a press conference to drop out of the race to be the GOP nominee for President at a press conference this morning according to CNN.

It’s a shame.  On paper and excusing the “if you don’t give illegal aliens college tuition you have no heart” blunder, Rick Perry should have been my guy. His debate performances and general mannerisms were just too reminiscent of George W. Bush for him to catch any fire, though.  We were all just too scared of Barack Obama’s billion dollars to line up behind another Texan who couldn’t coherently string three sentences together, even if he mostly had the right ideas.

My favorite Rick Perry story is when he shot a coyote that menaced his dog during a jog back in 2010.

Word is that this press conference will take place at 10AM ET, and that Perry will endorse Newt Gingrich.

Perry placed fifth in Iowa and last in New Hampshire – a state in which he did not actively compete – and had said he would launch a bid to win in South Carolina.

“South Carolinians are looking for a conservative candidate that will get this country back working again and I am it,” Perry told CNN last week.

On Wednesday, CNN asked Perry about a poll that showed him with only 6% support among likely voters in the South Carolina primary.
