The failed Obama administration continues deciding which dutifully passed laws it is and is not going to enforce by announcing that it will issue waivers entitling entire states to stop complying with No Child Left Behind standards and regulations.
It seems that too many students are failing the tests, which means that too many schools are failing the students. Instead of fixing the problem, Obama’s going to waive the mandate that the standards be met.
The students continue to be stupid, the schools continue to fail in educating those students, and no one is accountable for it.
Some Children From States With Strong Teachers’ Unions Left Behind doesn’t have the same ring.
[S]tates and local administrators are clamoring to the Department of Education for relief from federal mandates — and the sanctions that threaten to punish schools for not meeting the law’s requirements.
Waivers are likely to address the law’s requirement that 100 percent of students are proficient in state assessments by 2014, and the stringent sanctions that could result in a complete restructuring of schools deemed as “failing.”
[Education Secretary Arne] Duncan said he expects the exemptions to impact students during the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.
Just like with every other issue facing our Federal government, House Republicans are passing bills to resolve the situation and Senate Democrats are doing nothing about those bills.
