Philadelphia’s new News/Talk radio station 106.9 WWIQ-FM has launched their much anticipated morning drive news program. The station’s morning news block, which airs from 5AM to 9AM, is hosted by Larry Mendte and Levittown native Al Gardner.
Glenn Beck follows the news from 9AM to Noon. Rush Limbaugh will join the station when his contract with sinking WPHT-AM is over. Sean Hannity airs live from 3PM to 6PM.
Hannity had been the station’s lone host since its unofficial launch last month, with his show airing 24/7. It’s not clear what will air at 6PM tonight now that the stunt programming era for the station is over.
Leaving no doubt that WWIQ aims to be the new radio home to the area’s conservatives, the station’s web site takes direct aim at left-veering WPHT’s claim of being “Live and Local” and KYW-AM static signal and droning repetition.
Welcome to the fortress of free speech. The New IQ 106.9 FM is the Delaware Valley’s new home for Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. Hidden beyond the reach of big government and corporate media in an abandoned power plant in Fishtown, IQ 106.9 is fair and balanced, not live and liberal.
Dedicated to information, IQ 106.9 FM is Philly’s newest choice for news, weather and traffic in the morning. Traffic and weather every 10 minutes on the 10’s – and traffic alerts when they happen – through the morning rush. Now you can get news and information on your radio without switching to AM and without listening to the same news over and over and over.
Philly’s Morning News is hosted by native Philadelphians Al Gardner and Larry Mendte. Gardner returns to Philadelphia after hosting top-rated radio morning shows in Tampa, Atlanta and Charlotte. “Coming home to be on the radio is a dream come true that goes back to the days my Dad built a homemade radio station where I grew up along Levittown Parkway,” says an exuberant Gardner. Mendte is well known in Philly from his years as a TV news anchor on WCAU-TV and KYW-TV.
The station’s stream also appears to finally be live.
